The Regulatory Services group ensures focused, clear, effective end to end regulatory systems management of risks and improve safety and regulatory outcomes by creating a primary accountability for regulatory management. The group is accountable for operational policy, entry, in-service performance, and exit functions to manage harms and risk. The group ensures the setting of clear and consistent expectations in terms of policy, practices, procedures and processes so that customers and regulated parties know what is expected of them and what to expect from us.  

 

The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

As a Team Leader within the Vehicle and Driver Licensing group, you will lead a team that provides deep technical expertise, ensuring robust regulatory decision making on complex assessments in a high-volume environment.  

You will work closely and support the Manager with the strategic direction of the team.

This role will contribute to improving safety, minimising harm to passengers and road users and maintaining integrity of the land transport system.


We are looking for 4 enthusiastic and innovative leaders for the following teams:

Exemption Assessments 

Decision maker on requests for exemptions from driver licensing and a wide range of motor vehicle regulations & rules to ensure safety (Commercial & Private users), access to information from the Motor Vehicle Register, Alcohol Interlock Programme and Demerit Suspension Management

 Provider Licensing  

The Provider Licensing team ensures that vehicle inspecting outlets have the ability and competence and are fit and proper to undertake the vehicle certification activities on behalf of the Agency. For example, vehicles inspectors have the requisite ability and competence in order to issue Warrant of Fitness certificates

 Medical Reviews  

The Medical Review team make decisions to ensure a driver does not have a medical condition that could adversely affect their ability to safely control a motor vehicle or harm others using the land transport system 

 Licensing Assessments  

The Licensing Assessment team assess applications to ensure they meet the fit and proper criteria to ensure passenger and vehicle recovery drivers, driver testing officers, driving instructors can be allowed to operate within the land transport system

 

About you | Ko wai koe

To be successful in this role, you will bring:                                                        

  • Proven experience in leading and developing a team, preferably with 3-5 years Team Leader experience or equivalent
  • Ability to effectively interact with staff at all levels
  • Ability to form, create and maintain excellent stakeholder relationships
  • Experience leading and influencing a team through change
  • Demonstrates the ability to get ‘first hand' customer feedback to improve the customer experience and business processes
  • Effective written communication and presentation skills
  • Experience developing and delivering new business processes in an operational environment
