Pūmanawa Tāngata, the People group, is responsible for driving an environment in which people can really thrive.  We have an exciting new role in developing and implementing strategic initiatives to ensure that our operating model and functions build capability in delivering Te Ara Kotahi – Our Māori Strategy.

Te Ara Kotahi provides strategic direction to Waka Kotahi on how we work with and respond to Māori as the Crowns Treaty partner, and what this means for how we do business. The strategy has five pou, one of which is Empowered Organisation – we are looking to support and uplift our team to have the capability, capacity and confidence to weave and implement Te Ara Kotahi into their everyday mahi, supporting our employees.

The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

The role will be responsible for supporting the Pou Whakahaere – General Manager People and the group leadership team, through both strategic and operational advice on Te Ara Kotahi. The role will work with each function across the People Group to identify what considerations need to be made in regard to Te Ara Kotahi, and the initiatives that need to be implemented into their mahi.

The key to this role will be building strong relationships across the People Group, Waka Kotahi and externally. This role will report to the Manager Office of the GM.

About you | Ko wai koe

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrable experience in a Principal Advisory role, including:

  • Significant experience working with Māori and a well-developed understanding and in-depth knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles
  • Able to articulate a Māori world view and apply it
  • Advanced Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori, both in practice and application
  • and well established whānau, hapū, iwi and Māori organisation networks
  • Significant experience and knowledge working in an HR environment
  • An excellent understanding of Government and the public sector context
  • A track record of delivering outstanding advice and working well with people at all levels; using networked relationships to deliver results
  • Well-developed culturally appropriate skills in oral presentation and facilitation with ability to represent the business group with internal and external stakeholders
  • High level of writing skills and communication skills including ability to tailor cultural material to meet the needs of Pūmanawa Tāngata
  • Politically astute and objective approach
