Pre-Analytical Medical Laboratory Technician at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Te Tai Tokerau, Northland

  • Pathology Services, Dargaville Hospital
  • Permanent fulltime position, working 40 hours per week
  • Medical Laboratory Technician / Pre-Analytical Medical Laboratory Technician (Phlebotomist)

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to safely and efficiently collect blood and other specimens as requested by an authorized medical referrer. Achieving the best health outcomes for our patients starts with expecting the best from ourselves, and right now Health New Zealand Northland is looking for an exceptional person to support the Pathology Service. This is an opportunity to join our self-motivated Laboratory team who are highly patient focused.

The primary function of this position is to:

  • Assist in the receipt, documentation, registration, processing, testing and/or reporting of all specimens, including those referred to other laboratories, as required by authorised policies and protocols
  • Perform other technical and operational duties normally expected of a Medical Laboratory Technician, for the efficient and effective operations of the Pathology Service.

About you

  • QPT (Qualified Phlebotomist Technician) or QMLT (Medical Laboratory Technician)
  • Work experience as a phlebotomist
  • Proven ability to rapidly learn new knowledge and skills.
  • A basic understanding of health/illness and prevention of infection.
  • A basic understanding of filing systems.
  • Previous experience within a Healthcare setting.

Whilst not essential to apply, recent phlebotomy experience in a Medical Laboratory is desirable.
