Emergency Medicine Registrars - Whangārei at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Te Tai Tokerau, Northland

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

  • Whangārei Hospital
  • Fulltime Permanent
  • Commencing February 2026

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora – Te Tai Tokerau (Health New Zealand) is looking for exceptional Emergency Registrars to join our team in February 2026.

At Health New Zealand everyone feels they play a part in delivering healthcare that is unique. From people, patients and pathologies you won't find anywhere else, to colleagues who become lifetime friends, we pull together to get things done. When you work with and for people who care about you, there's nothing more inspiring or motivating. Northland is a sub-tropical wonderland of white sand beaches, remote islands, massive sand dunes and Kauri forests.

Health New Zealand is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Māori as Tāngata Whenua as the highest priority.

Northland's population is roughly one-third tangata whenua (Māori, the indigenous people of this land). Northlanders value their connection to Te Reo Māori (the Māori language), whānau (family), whenua (land), and tikanga Māori (Māori customs).   Working with us is a wonderful opportunity to start or continue your journey into Te Ao Māori (The Maori World).

We see about 45,000 patients a year, or about 120-160 patients a day. Whangarei ED serves a population of roughly 180,000, with a catchment area that stretches from Cape Reinga 4.5 hours north, to Te Hana an hour south, encompassing Kaitaia, Rawene, Bay of Islands and Dargaville referral hospitals.

Northland is a popular place to work and we attract the best. As an Emergency Registrar at Health New Zealand you will gain excellent practical experience in managing very sick patients reflecting the high health needs of the region. Road trauma, farm trauma, beach trauma: you name it and we look after it.

About the Role

  • Accredited for 24 months ACEM advanced training and paediatric logbook requirements
  • Strong track record of supporting entry into ACEM training and exam support
