About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist plays a key role in providing advanced specialist care and coordinating support for individuals and whānau affected by communicable diseases across both healthcare and community settings, including:

• Supporting integrated models of care across the continuum of health services
• Acts as a clinical resource, offering expert advice and education to nursing and wider health teams
• Models a commitment to leading new ways of working that align with and advance Pae Ora

About the Service

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) Northern Region works in partnership with Iwi and Māori communities to deliver services that are Tiriti honouring, culturally responsive, and centred on the needs of whānau. This position is based in Te Tai Tokerau, working across the Northern region.

About you

We are seeking an experienced Public Health Communicable Diseases nurse who is NZ‑registered with a current APC, holds (or is working toward) a postgraduate qualification, and has achieved at least Level 4 on the Professional Development and Recognition Programme. You are a strong team player with excellent relationship-building skills, effective time management, and the ability to prioritise and deliver proactively.

We are looking for someone who advocates for equitable outcomes for Māori, Pacific peoples, disabled people, Rainbow communities, and refugee populations. You will be confident championing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in service delivery and supporting the development and advancement of kaimahi Māori, Pacific peoples, and others across the workforce.

You will bring:

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in communicable diseases or public health 
• Postgraduate qualification in nursing (or working toward) 
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to the professional development of nursing staff 
• Current annual practising certificate 
• Has experience in working with iwi/ hapū and Māori communities 
• Proven relationships with Pacific communities and leaders 
• Minimum 5 years in varied environments with responsibilities for achieving equitable health outcomes and responsive to Te Tiriti o Waitangi 
• A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions. This includes an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in this role 
• Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
