Mental Health and Addictions Services, Whangārei (1.0FTE)

 

Right now, we invite you to apply for an exciting opportunity as a Takawaenga within our Child and Youth Mental Health Services based in the Whangārei rohe. This role requires an individual with mātauranga of Te Tai Tokerau rohe, iwi, and tikanga,

About the Role

This role involves working with young people who are involved in the youth justice system or are high risk of offending.  You will have a passion for working with rangatahi and their whānau, along with a diverse and flexible approach, and proficient skills and knowledge, with a commitment to Tikanga Māori.

 

The role is part of Te Roopu Kimiora, Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Alcohol and Drug Service and is based in Whangarei. You will work alongside other Kaimahi Māori within a supportive team environment of health professionals that is committed to delivering an excellent clinical and cultural service that reflects the needs of our tāngata whaiora and their whānau.

 

This community-based role is full time (40 hours per week) and requires some travel between Whangarei and Kaikohe so you must have a valid full drivers licence.

 

About You:

Our ideal candidate will have:

 

  • a passion for working with young people and their whānau, along with a diverse and flexible approach, and proficient skills and knowledge, with a commitment to Tikanga Māori.
  • working knowledge of the criminal justice system and experience working in Te Ao Māori and Te Ao Pakeha
  • experience working alongside rangatahi and their whānau living with the effects of mental illness and addictions in our community.
  • a current full drivers licence with the ability to travel throughout Northland
