The vision for the kaiāwhina role in Te Kotuku aligns with that of the Kaiāwhina Workforce Taskforce: The kaiāwhina term embodies the core essence of a workforce that is passionate, resilient, diverse, skilled and committed to supporting hauora (holistic wellbeing) outcomes of all in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The Kaiāwhina in Te Kotuku will play a significant role in providing support to wahine and whānau Māori utilising maternity services in Te Kotuku. This will be from the perspectives of whānaungatanga, manaaki, aroha and awhi.
Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Māori as Tāngata Whenua as the highest priority.
The role:
Right now we are looking for a Kaiāwhina to work as part of our Maternity Services. This is a new role for a fixed one-year term 1.0 FTE position working 40 hours per week. The work day pattern is negotiable.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside other health professionals and team members within a supportive, multi-disciplinary team. This will provide you with a fantastic environment to grow and develop your knowledge and skills further.
Primary functions include:
• Ensure whānau feel supported, safe and confident that their Tikanga and cultural needs are met
• Develop knowledge of services in order to problem solve with whānau in the health system
• Promote positive health messages to whanau
• Maintain a high standard of practice appropriate to the position and show commitment to personal development and competency
Key requirements:
• Current clean full driver's license
• Sound understanding of Te Au Maori me ona tikanga
• Understanding of conversational Te Reo Maori
• Understanding of the challenges associated with parenthood
• Experience in working with whānau dynamics in complex situations
A background of working in social work, mental health or the health system setting will be desirable for this role, however not essential to apply.
