Registered Nurse - Consult Liaison and Duly Authorised Officer, Whangarei Acute Spectrum Specialist Services (2.0 FTE, fixed term) at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Te Tai Tokerau, Northland

Are you a Registered Nurse with a passion for Mental Health Nursing? Right now, our Consult Liaison Mental Health Team are seeking an experienced nurse to provide mental health nursing consultation, brief intervention and liaison nursing to adult and older adult inpatients of Whangarei Base Hospital, and act as a resource to regional hospitals.

Based at Whangarei Hospital, we have two fixed term (ending March 2024) full-time roles, each working 40 hours per week.

Our ideal applicant will have experience of working with tāngata whaiora and their whānau living with the effects of mental illness in our community and a proven ability to communicate well with tāngata whaiora, their whānau and colleagues, and engage Māori in making choices that enhance their wellbeing. 

 

Working as part of an MDT you will respond to requests for advice and consultation from other specialities in the hospital in relation to the mental health needs of people under their care - both inpatients and outpatients.

 

The response includes both urgent and non-urgent requests - acting as a liaison between mental health services and the other specialists, providing advice on assessment, treatment and pathways to the treating team.

 

You will need to be able to work across a range of disciplines and specialties. On occasion when necessary you will need to act in your capacity as a Duly Authorised Officer in relation to both providing information, education, and at times implementation of the Mental Health Act.

 

You will work alongside other Kaimahi Māori within a supportive team environment of health professionals that is committed to delivering an excellent clinical and cultural service that reflects the needs of our tāngata whaiora and their whānau.
