About our Service

Te Tai Tokerau Psychiatry is part of the Northern Region Psychiatry Training Programme. Psychiatry Registrars are provided with excellent consultant support and access to regular local teaching and participation in teaching through the Northern Region training scheme.

 

Te Tai Tokerau has had considerable success in providing comprehensive training to Registrars enabling them to gain Fellowship of the RANZCP.

 

The Te Tai Tokerau psychiatry programme offers runs in acute inpatient psychiatry, community adult psychiatry, Māori mental health, rural psychiatry, child and youth mental health, liaison psychiatry and psychiatry for older adults.

Whangārei is the largest hospital in Northland, providing secondary care services for the region, supported by four regional hospitals.   Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 201,000.  As a region Northland is renowned for its beautiful beaches and relaxed lifestyle.
