Job Description
The NZ Ombudsmen are designated to carry out National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) responsibilities under the United Nations Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT). These responsibilities are to inspect and monitor the treatment of people in health and disability places of detention, prisons, immigration detention facilities, child care and protection residences and youth justice residences.
The Chief Ombudsman is expanding its inspections function and the growing team will require full time programme and administration support.
In this newly created position, the OPCAT Programme and Administration Officer will provide programme coordination, administration and logistics support to the OPCAT team. This includes preparing and tracking programme, planning and budget documentation, making travel arrangements and coordinating inspections reports, annual plans and other reporting documentation. You'll also play a lead role in coordinating the preparation, data collation and data analysis for all survey activity conducted by the team.
As the nature of inspections work involves dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information, the ability to demonstrate a high level of integrity and discretion will be key for this position.

Depending on skills and experience, the salary for this position will likely range between $47,958 and $59,948.
