Asset Maintenance Instructor - Otago at Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections), Otago (Otakou)

About the role | Mō te tūnga

Offender Employment (OE) is all about giving people in our care the opportunity to gain skills and work experience to increase their chances of obtaining employment after release. Now is an exciting time to join us as an Asset Maintenance Instructor at Otago Corrections Facility.

There are so many facets to this role, from facilitating adult learning and on-job training, to painting exterior & interior assets, maintaining facilities, and forging relationships across the Department and within the wider community.

About you | Mōu

The training you provide will enable others to achieve NZQA qualifications linked to the Primary Industry Training Organisation. In providing a platform of good working habits to take forward to the future, you will further support rehabilitation and reintegration practices. The role also provides support to the wider Offender Employment operation on occasion as part of the wider Internal Services Team.

This rewarding position demands someone who possess;

  • Proven experience in the construction industry with a focus in Asset maintenance painting
  • A relevant trade qualification
  • Proven record of Refurbishment and New Build projects
  • Outstanding Health and Safety practices
  • Exceptional people, communication & organisational skills
  • The ability to motivate and harness the talents of people within a team environment,
  • Ideally be experienced as an adult educator or NZQA assessor (4098 or equivalent) however it is not essential as we will support you to obtain this.
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • A full New Zealand Driver's License

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

Experience as an adult educator and Primary ITO Assessor or NZQA Assessor is preferred. A full driver licence and First Aid Certificate is required.

The Department of Corrections manages offenders to ensure they comply with their sentences. At its core, our work is about creating opportunities, for our people as well as offenders. We need people of all skills and life experience to help us create these opportunities.

The hours of work will be on a rostered shift basis of 80 hours per fortnight. Public Holidays with the possibility of some overtime or call-outs may be required.

Utu ā-tau | Salary

The starting salary and full range for this role is (85%-120%) is $60,194 - $68,310. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
