Mō mātou - About us
The Intellectual Disability Service (IDS) is part of the Specialist Mental Health Services based at Wakari Hospital, high above Dunedin with stunning views of the city and ocean. The IDS comprises of three parts, Ward 10a – a 12 bed inpatient service, Helensburgh Cottage – a four bed inpatient rehabilitation unit and the Community Liaison Team.
Ward 10a is a medium secure 12 bed inpatient service for intellectually disabled clients, aged 17 to 65 years, who require assessment and treatment under the Mental Health Act, or are subject to the criminal justice system via the Intellectual Disability Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation Act 2003.
Mō te tūranga - About the role:
- Permanent, full-time (1.0 FTE), 40 hours per week
- Provide occupational therapy assessment, treatment planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Deliver safe client focused care in an ever-changing dynamic setting
- Be actively involved in individual and group therapy programmes
- Responsible for ensuring appropriate activity programmes for our diverse client group
- Work alongside patients in a complex environment to meet their identified needs in a multi-disciplinary setting

- Have a client centered approach and a passion for working with people with an intellectual disability
- Be a registered Occupational Therapist with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
- Excellent communicator who thrives on building and developing relationships with a diverse range of people
- Great team-player who is comfortable working effectively within a multi-disciplinary team

Utu whānui - Salary range
This role belongs to the DHBs/PSA Allied, Public Health and Technical Multi-Employer Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($77,087 p.a) and Step 8 ($107,600 p.a pro-rata) of the Degree-based Allied, Public Health and Technical Salary scale.
