About the Role

Lakes District Hospital Maternity Unit is seeking a Registered Midwife to join the team in a permanent role.

Here at Lakes District Hospital, we value the care we offer whanau at our primary birthing unit. We are co-located with hospital services in Queenstown allowing for support and collaboration from the medical team if required. There are strong linkages with Southland Hospital for secondary level services and Dunedin Hospital who provide tertiary services.

You will be using your valuable midwifery experience to provide exceptional care, support and guidance to our new mothers and babies as they set out together on their new journey. As a Registered Midwife, you will have an interest in joining a team where kindness, integrity, honesty and a great sense of humour counts. You will work throughout your full scope of practice providing care for acute antenatal assessments, assisting LMCs with intrapartum care as well as providing exceptional postnatal support for women who have an inpatient stay with us.

About the Team/Service/Location

Southern Midwifery support a very diverse maternity community spread across the region, providing care to whānau in urban, rural and remote areas of Southern region. To achieve our maternity and broader population goals we work in partnership with Iwi, primary care and community providers, rural trust hospitals and education and research partners across the district.

About You

We are looking for an experienced midwife who will have an exceptional commitment to quality care and enjoy being involved in a variety of tasks to ensure the very best care is provided at all times.

What you will bring:

  • Registration as a Midwife with the NZMC and current Annual Practicing Certificate.
  • Strong clinical and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • A commitment to providing high-quality, whānau-centred care.
  • Adaptability and resilience to work in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Salary range

This role falls under the terms and conditions of the MERAS Midwives Collective Agreement (1 June 2025 – 31 October 2027), Registered (Core) Midwives Salary Scale, between Step 2 and Step 7, $85,559 to $111,821 per annum, pro rata.
