There's a lot happening in dialysis across Southern, and it's an exciting time to join us. Our service is growing, our model of care is evolving and we have a position available within our Dunedin Dialysis Unit.

You don't need dialysis experience. We can teach you dialysis.

What we're looking for are nurses who are curious, clinically switched on, enjoy hands-on nursing and want to develop specialist skills while building meaningful relationships with patients and whānau.

About the role

Dunedin is the main dialysis centre for Southern, supporting people requiring renal replacement therapy across a large geographical area, from Waitaki through Central Otago and down to Bluff.

We provide in-centre haemodialysis, home haemodialysis training and support, peritoneal dialysis, respite dialysis and acute dialysis care. This means there is plenty of variety and lots of opportunity to grow your practice.

Dialysis nursing brings together technical skill, critical thinking and genuinely patient-centred care. Because many of our patients are with us for a significant part of their healthcare journey, you'll get to know them and their whānau well and have the opportunity to make a real difference over time.

What makes dialysis nursing different?

• Build real relationships: Care for people over time and become an important part of their journey.
• Develop specialist skills: Learn the technical side of dialysis while strengthening your assessment, clinical judgement and critical-thinking skills.
• Champion independence: Support and educate people to manage their own care and, wherever possible, dialyse at home.
• Have variety in your practice: Work across different aspects of dialysis care, with opportunities to develop across in-centre, home and acute therapies.
• Be part of the MDT: Work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team where nursing judgement and your contribution to patient care are valued.
• Keep learning: Renal nursing is a specialty with plenty to learn, and we'll support you to build your knowledge, confidence and expertise.

Our service operates Monday to Saturday, 0700–1930, with an on-call component providing acute dialysis support outside of these hours.

About you

Dialysis experience would be great, but it isn't essential. For the right nurses, we'll provide the training and support you need to develop your dialysis practice.

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
• The right to work in New Zealand.

Salary range

This role belongs to the expired NZNO Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 2 ($81,683 p.a) and Step 7 ($106,739 p.a) prorata of the Registered Nurse scale.
