Public Health Communications Senior Advisor - Te Waipounamu - NPHS at Te Whatu Ora, Otago

About the Role

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity available to join our Te Waipounamu regional team as a Public Health Senior Communications Advisor.

The Senior Communications Advisor is a key member of the regional team and requires a proven and experienced communications professional to help manage internal and external communications functions across the region, and act as the Public Information Management (PIM) in emergency response structures. Importantly, you will be part of a supportive team with strong connections across the wider Health NZ People and Communications team.

Please note that this role has an on-call requirement.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

About you

You are an experienced communications advisor able to make a significant contribution to the development and implementation of communications strategies ensuring they align with National Public Health Service and Regional communication objectives and strategies.

Skills and Experience

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, marketing public relations or media management
  • 3+ years senior communications experience in public health, the health sector or related sectors
  • Proven expertise in handling technical and clinical information
  • Experienced in the use of social media, and website platforms
  • A current full New Zealand drivers' licence
  • Working knowledge of MS Office programmes
  • Experience in applying critical thinking, using sound judgment to develop options and knowledge of the machinery of government, and policy development, is preferable
  • Demonstrated mature communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and present in a clear, persuasive, and impactful way, to influence others to embrace change, and to develop, unify and maintain strong internal and external relationships essential for achieving sustainable outcomes
