About the Role
We have an opportunity available to join our Te Waipounamu regional team as a Public Health Nurse. This is a permanent, 0.8fte role.
Public health nursing includes assessment of personal and population health, attention to the multiple determinants of health, an emphasis on primary prevention, immunisation, and continued commitment to best evidence-based public health nursing practice.
This role provides a range of tamariki, rangatahi and Hauora services within the whanau and community/education setting. This includes schools, preschools, visiting program and home visiting.
About the Team/Service/Location
The public health nursing team is part of the National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, and work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures for all) by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
As a successful candidate, you will show and understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and be skilled in applying its principles effectively in your role. You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels and model an agile approach, you learn quickly, and adapt fast. You can utilise advanced nursing knowledge and skills through reflective practice, critical thinking and professional judgement to provide competent care and advice while working to the top of your scope.
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate
- Child and whanau health-related experience
- Ability to work within a team and autonomously
- An ongoing commitment to professional development
- A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for underserved whānau and communities
- Be prepared to work towards, or already be, a whole-of-life authorised vaccinator
- Demonstrated competence in the application of Māori health models to Nursing practice
- Proven experience using Patient Management Systems
- An eye for detail and commitment to continuous quality improvement
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability and passion to work with a diverse range of children, young people and their families whanau.
- Respectful and responsive to Whaikaha and persons living with disabilities.
- Full Driver's Licence
