Specialist Anaesthetist at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Southern, Otago

About the role

Dunedin Hospital has 300 beds and servicing the Southern region which covers a population of around 340,000. The Anaesthesia Service has state of the art equipment and is supported by our well-trained technicians and PACU staff. This is also an exciting time to join as our service prepares for the new Dunedin Hospital. As a Specialist Anaesthetist, you'll be expected to provide anaesthesia for a mix of general lists covering a broad range of specialist services. You will also be expected to provide afterhours cover during the week and will participate on a 1:8 weekend call roster.

We are a tertiary level hospital with a full range of elective and acute surgical specialities and can offer you a varied and challenging array of anaesthesia work.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with the following skills and experience to complement our team:

  • An excellent general skill set
  • It would be desirable to have a specialist interest in perioperative medicine
  • A team player with exceptional interpersonal skills who builds effective relationships both within and external to their team
  • Is solution focused and can demonstrate excellent decision making and priority setting in a clinical environment
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and passing on their knowledge to junior members of staff

Mōu ake - About you

Appointed specialists will possess FANZCA or an equivalent qualification allowing a vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council.

Salary range

This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($185,380) and Step 15 ($267,980 per annum pro-rata).
