About the role

The Intellectual Disability Service (IDS) is part of the Specialist Mental Health Services based at Wakari Hospital. Ward 10a is a Medium Secure Forensic Intellectual Disability Inpatient Ward with seven beds. Cottage is a four-bed step-down unit. You will work across the Ward and the Cottage in this role, alongside the multidisciplinary team comprising of registered nurses, enrolled nurses, mental health assistants, occupational therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic enrolled nurse - preferably with mental health or intellectual disability nursing experience - to join our supportive multidisciplinary team. However, we are also offering new graduate opportunities that are supported by the Enrolled Nurse Transition into Practice programme

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical skills, working alongside patients in a complex environment to meet their identified needs in a multi-disciplinary setting. The emphasis is on the delivery of safe client-focused care in a changing dynamic setting, working closely with the associate charge nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist and registered nurses within our service

About you

As an experienced enrolled nurse, you will have a range of skills and the ability to work effectively to a high standard within your scope of practice

To be successful in this role you must have strong written and verbal communication skills, along with a passion for supporting people with an intellectual disability from admission to discharge

You must also be registered as an enrolled nurse with NCNZ (Enrolled Nurse Scope of Practice, NCNZ, 2010) and have a current practising certificate
