  • Dunedin Hospital
  • Fixed-term parental leave cover, full-time role (1.0 FTE), February - May 2026

About the role

Dunedin Hospital provides a full range of tertiary services, and we are looking for a rheumatologist to provide parental leave cover for a team of six rheumatologists.

Dunedin Hospital Rheumatology Department offers:

  • management of a diverse spectrum of inflammatory rheumatic disease within a multidisciplinary team
  • robust therapeutic and diagnostic modalities available at world class standards
  • highly integrated, collaborative department, supporting work-life balance.

We deliver to a population of approximately 350,000 people over the Otago and Southland regions, through two main centres, Dunedin and Invercargill. We proudly provide quality healthcare to our population.

With a focus on outpatient consultations and management of inflammatory disease, our service delivery is uniquely interwoven with the demands of our population base and the referral General Practitioner structure. Our patient population is predominantly inflammatory arthritis with a high prevalence of connective tissue disorders and vasculitis. We undertake a range of procedures and have available clinic based ultrasound and nail fold video capillaroscopy. In addition to conventional radiology, CT and MRI, we have easy access to Nuclear Medicine SPECT scans, and state-of-the art immunology laboratory diagnostics.

The Department has a close association with the University of Otago Medical School and the post holder would be expected to assist with teaching rheumatology to medical students and allied health professionals.

In this post, you would join a department of dedicated and enthusiastic rheumatology colleagues committed to delivering quality care, and who routinely share ideas and knowledge, within a highly collegial workplace.

To enjoy being part of our team, you will be a highly competent, flexible and collaborative specialist who values constant learning. You will always be kind and personable with the ultimate goal of providing exceptional care. You must be able to provide cover from February - May 2026 and participate in our current on-call roster, which is one week out of five, when you will undertake inpatient consultations.
