Prevocational Educational Supervisor - Dunedin Hospital at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Southern, Otago

We are seeking a hospital specialist who would be interested in taking up the role of Educational Supervisor for pre-vocational RMOs in Dunedin. This role would complement the current team of five supervisors supported by the RMO Unit, the Medical Director of Prevocational Education and reporting to the Chief Medical Officer.

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Southern is committed to developing a reputation for excellence in training of Resident Doctors and the first two years, for which this role forms a critical foundation.

The Prevocational Educational Supervisor acts on behalf of the Medical Council of New Zealand in fulfilling statutory functions around education, training and supervision of PGY1 and PGY2 House Officers. Dunedin Hospital currently approximately 60 PGY1 and 2 House Officers.

The appointment requires the approval of the Medical Council of New Zealand. The Prevocational Educational Supervisor signs a contract with the Medical Council and is paid an annual honorarium (in addition to the 0.1FTE paid by Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Southern).

The Prevocational Educational Supervisor is required to be:

  • known, approachable and easily accessible to the PGY1 and PGY2 House Officers
  • an advocate for the PGY1 and PGY2 House Officers
  • able to influence decisions on the run choices for PGY1 and PGY2 House Officers
  • interested in education
  • able to form good working relationships and liaise with the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Director of Prevocational Education, Clinical supervisors and specialists around education, training and supervision of PGY1 and PGY2 House Officers
  • able to support supervising specialists should the Council's requirements not be met and the educational needs of the PGY1 or PGY2 House Officer compromised.

Training and development would be offered to the successful candidate to ensure they have the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the MCNZ requirements as well as to support the future development of the RMO training programme.
