About the role
This is a senior, district-wide leadership role responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of non-clinical support services that enable safe, effective patient care across the Southern District. Reporting to the Group Director of Operations, the Service Manager leads a large and diverse portfolio of internal teams and contracted providers, ensuring services are delivered to agreed standards, KPIs and budgets. The role has end-to-end accountability for service planning, financial and risk management, workforce leadership, certification and accreditation compliance, sustainability initiatives, and continuous improvement, while partnering closely with clinical and non-clinical leaders to support evolving models of care and organisational priorities.
- Provides district-wide leadership and coordination of critical non-clinical support services that underpin clinical care delivery
- Manages a broad portfolio of internal teams and external contracts, ensuring performance against KPIs, quality standards and financial targets
- Leads service planning, financial management, reporting and risk mitigation, including compliance with health, safety, employment and certification standards
- Drives continuous improvement, innovation and sustainability initiatives aligned with government policy and Te Whatu Ora strategy
About you
You are a confident, values-led senior leader who brings strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking and a collaborative approach to managing complex service environments. You are comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels, building trusted relationships, and leading diverse teams and contractors to deliver high-quality, patient-focused outcomes in a dynamic health setting.
- A proven senior manager with significant experience in contract management, service delivery and budget accountability within complex organisations
- A strategic and analytical thinker, able to plan while delivering consistently against operational priorities and KPIs
- An authentic people leader who builds high-performing teams, leads change effectively, and models integrity, accountability and inclusion
- Financially and commercially astute, with strong capability in reporting, business cases and managing risk and compliance
- Committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, sustainability and continuous improvement, with a culturally safe and values-driven leadership style
