Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

  • Dunedin Hospital
  • Permanent, part-time role (0.8 FTE)
  • Salary band: $185,380 - $267,980 per annum pro-rata

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we are building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the role

This is a permanent, part-time role (0.8 FTE) based at Dunedin Hospital. You will join a close-knit and supportive team of four. The department provides a generalist plastic surgery service, offering exposure to a wide variety of procedures including skin cancer treatment, breast reconstruction, and elective hand surgery (with acute hand cases primarily managed by Orthopaedics). There are also opportunities to collaborate on reconstructive procedures with Orthopaedic, ENT, and General Surgical Services.

Experience in burns management and microsurgery is essential. The service is well supported by other plastic surgery centres across New Zealand for complex cases such as large burns, cleft lip and palate, craniofacial surgery, and vascular anomalies.

We provide care to a population of approximately 350,000 across the lower South Island. Our team has strong links with the University of Otago School of Medicine and Otago Polytechnic School of Nursing. You will benefit from continuous professional development, involvement in teaching, and opportunities to participate in research within a combined clinical-academic environment.

We value a welcoming, safe, equitable, and inclusive workplace. A strong commitment to multicultural practice and family/whānau-centred care is essential.

About Dunedin

Dunedin offers an exceptional lifestyle, combining the feel of a small city with the amenities of a larger centre. Known for its southern hospitality, it provides excellent schools, a relaxed lifestyle, and access to world-famous wildlife on the Otago Peninsula.

The city has a vibrant cultural scene, including theatre, gardens, art galleries, live music, and a diverse range of restaurants and cafes. Central Otago, a popular holiday destination, is within easy reach and offers numerous outdoor recreation opportunities.

About you

This role is open to registered medical practitioners who hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or an equivalent qualification, enabling specialist (vocational) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
