General Surgeon - Breast Subspecialty - Dunedin Hospital at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Southern, Otago

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

  • Dunedin Hospital
  • Permanent, part-time role (0.8 FTE, 32 hours per week)
  • Salary band: $185,380 - $267,980 per annum pro-rata

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking applications from General Surgeons who have experience in breast surgery, oncoplastic and reconstruction following breast cancer, and pre-cancerous diseases requiring surgical management.

About the role

Working at Dunedin Hospital, a 350-bed teaching and training institution, and our wider Surgical Directorate, you will bring your specialist skills in breast surgery to our team and community alike. Our clinics take place across the catchment area and may involve scenic flights to outreach facilities. You would be part of a team of three breast surgeons and dedicated breast care nurses, and work closely with the excellent Breast Radiology team, and the plastic and reconstructive surgeons in the department. There is an on-call component as part of the general surgical roster that is currently a 1:9.5 rotation, which would be negotiable dependent on the skill set of the successful candidate.

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • to possess FRACS in General Surgery or an equivalent qualification, and ideally have finished a Breast Fellowship
  • to be a registered Medical Practitioner with a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent to enable specialist (vocational) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand for Dunedin Hospital.

This position would be suitable for an experienced surgeon as well as someone in the early stages of their consultant career, as we pride ourselves on our collaborative and supportive working environment.

This is an opportunity to work in a supportive, family-friendly environment with a wide variety of cases, access to professional development, and a close relationship with the University of Otago.
