Occupational Therapist - Ward 11 and Community at Southern District Health Board (Invercargill/Dunedin), Otago

About the role and you

A very exciting opportunity now exists in the SDHB for an experienced registered occupational therapist to join the Mental Health Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS), working specifically towards transition of consumers from hospital into alternative community options that support their occupational needs.This role will have a unique inpatient – community interface to enable follow through and sustainability,working with consumers in the context of their new homes/social environment.

You will work collaboratively as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team across a number of service areas, providing a crucial role in transitioning consumers whopresent with serious complex mental health issues. It is expected that you will provide a discipline specific perspective through the facilitation and delivery of the occupational therapy process, including assessments, treatment planning and interventions for this client group. Application of a transition programme using a strengths-based, holistic guiding framework will be required to ensure effectivepreparation for moving into a new home environment.

You will be an experienced registered Occupational Therapist with a current annual practicing certificate, and a clean full driver licence. You will demonstrate well established skills in occupational therapy assessment, treatment planning, implementation, and evaluation. As an excellent communicator you will thrive on having the opportunity to build and develop collaborative relationships with a wide range of disciplines and community agencies to ensure effective guidance and support is provided, especially to family and support agencies to ensure success. You will have excellent organising and time management skills, and you'll also need to have a client centred approach and a strong recovery focus.
