Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Dunedin Hospital

  • 0.8 FTE fixed-term opportunity for 12 months

We are seeking applications from dynamic and career driven Registered Nurses, preferably with experience in the Cardiac speciality, to join us in a fixed-term Clinical Nurse Specialist role.

About you

We are looking for a positive and confident Registered Nurse who has the drive and enthusiasm to improve the health care of patients cared for by the Cardiac service. This role will act as an advocate for the best model of care for our patients both in the hospital and the community setting. To be considered for the role you will be a committed team member with a passion for modelling quality nursing practise.

You will have excellent communication and relationship building skills and have a minimum of five years practice within the defined scope of clinical speciality. Ideally you will have a post graduate qualification (or working towards) and/or a master's degree. It is also expected that you will have achieved/or be working towards Level 3/4 PDRP.

About the role

The purpose of this role will be to improve the coordination of care for cardiac patients, to ensure better case management of the patients whilst they are awaiting surgery and to facilitate a faster discharge from hospital. This role will also follow up on our discharged patients to ensure that they are safe and well at home or if needed, to engage in early medical attention (GP or Specialist advise) if there are any clinical concerns.

As our Cardiac Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will promote quality nursing care through research-based practice and be responsible for patient care within your scope of practice. You will have a role in supporting service quality improvement initiatives. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team, educating and sharing knowledge with patients and staff so outstanding relationship-building skills are essential.

This 0.8FTE fixed-term position is available for 12 months due to funding being available for a fixed period from the Ministry of Health Improvement Action Plan. This role is paid at Grade 2 of the Designated Senior Nurses Scale Interim order ($101,089 - $111,695 pro rata per annum).
