Mō te tūranga - About the role:
Puāwai Rehabilitation Unit (PRU) is situated at the Wakari Hospital site. It functions as part of Dunedin Hospital, albeit on a separate site. We are seeking a talented Rehabilitation Medicine Registrar to join the team of dedicated health professionals.
Whether you are already in training or looking to join the programme, we welcome expressions of interest from those who are keen to work in this area.
There are three consultants, and the position is accredited by the AFRM-RACP for Advanced training in Rehabilitation Medicine and is a great place to learn, see and experience a number of aspects of Acquired Brain Injury, Stroke and General Rehabilitation Medicine. The Consultants take a keen interest in assisting their staff participate in the training programme and support preparation for the associated training modules and examinations.
Working at PRU will provide the successful candidate with a good opportunity for great exposure to patients requiring holistic rehabilitation as well as fantastic teaching experiences. The medical team have links with neuroradiology and participate a weekly radiological session together with the neurosurgeons and neurologists from Dunedin Hospital. PRU Medical Staff also participate in the neuroscience programme which also includes the Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychology. Peer review meetings are held on a monthly basis and a Journal Club is held monthly with topics being presented in turn by the various sub-specialities.
On-Call is shared with the consultants and generally 1:3 on-call from home for one week at a time from 8am - 11pm.
Mōu ake - About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
- registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council's website at www.mcnz.org.nz
- keen interest in the area of Rehabilitation Medicine and have a minimum of two years post graduate medical experience.
It is requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand, it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion. Utu whānui - Salary range
This role is covered by the terms and conditions of New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association and 20 DHB Multi Employer Collective 17 May 2021 - 31 March 2024 (NZRDA MECA) and Specialty Trainees of New Zealand and 20 District Health Boards Multi Employer Collective Agreement 14 December 2021 - 13 December 2023 (the STONZ MECA) and the salary will fall between $97,618 - $144,800 dependant on relevant experience.
