Mō te tūranga - About the role
Patients in the critical care setting are at high risk of malnutrition. Critically ill patients are likely to require enteral, parenteral, or oral nutrition support (or a combination of these) to meet their nutritional needs. The dietitian is best placed to provide nutritional advice to the multi-professional team on the optimal way to manage the nutritional needs of all critically ill patient,.
Mōu ake - About you
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
- Clinical experience and up-to-date knowledge including surgical and critical care acute clinical settings
- A working knowledge of dietetic intervention techniques including patient centred goal planning, malnutrition diagnosis and interventions, and acute caseload management
- Registered dietitian with the New Zealand Dietitians Board with a current annual practicing certificate
- Hold an endorsed prescriber scope of practice
- Evidence/Best practice focused in service delivery
- Participation in weekend on call roster, as appropriate
- Be computer literate with a broad based understanding of computer skills, including use of basic Microsoft programmes, and Proficient in use of health related programmes

Our passionate and fun Dunedin team of 10 dietitians is excited to be extending our service specific to the critical care area, with this new funding.
Te Waipounamu funding for educator roles will support staff transition onto a new model of critical care across disciplines and services.
