We have a Customer Regulatory Specialist role in our Crown Property function. This follows a recent change designed to bring us closer to our customers and have us take on more responsibility for property and land management. It is an exciting time to join us in supporting the responsible management and enhancing the use of Crown Land for existing and future generations.

All our specialists in Crown Property work collaboratively to ensure that portfolios meet legislative and maintenance requirements. We also work extensively with Iwi on treaty settlement properties.

This position is being offered based in one of our offices: Hamilton, Wellington, or Christchurch, with a team anchor day on Thursdays.

The team for Assessment and Acquisition:

You will be part of the team responsible for assessing applications for public use of Crown Land.

The Assessment and Acquisition team oversees applications such as recreational permits, access letters, grazing permits, easements, leases and licenses.  The team are also responsible for Crown purchases including marine and coastal areas and Treaty acquisitions, Crown Forest License fees, RfR Memorials and managing enquiries for Crown Property. The Assessment and Acquisition team plays a critical part in providing the connection between Crown Property and our customers.

This is our ‘work engine' so you will have previous experience excelling in a high-volume customer function, with statutory decision making. You will understand system workflows and the importance of business process.

He pūkenga tou - Skills & Experience

About you:

  • An understanding of laws and regulations surrounding land obligations including Land Act 1948, Resource Management Act 1991, Biosecurity Act 1993, Crown Forest Act 1989 and relevant national policy statements would be a plus.
  • A strong understanding of government legislation including national policy statements and local authority legislation.
  • Proven track record in land assessment and consenting.
  • A strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills, able to apply logical reasoning across diverse scenarios and make confident, well-informed decisions.
  • A self-starter, and lateral thinker, who works with agility whilst keeping relevant legislative & process driven environment top of mind.
  • Proven organisation skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines while working within an agile environment.
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting legislation.
  • Excellent communication, and able to apply a flexible approach to your work.
  • Experience working in a high-volume environment.
  • Experience in Stakeholder engagement & relationship building; able to navigate difficult conversations with our customers whilst still maintaining a positive relationship.
  • Comfortable with working in Te Ao Māori (Māori world) and an understanding of Tikanga Māori.
  • Experience in working across multiple systems.

You may also bring:

  • Property and/or land management experience.
  • Proven experience in customer service management.
  • Working collaboratively with Iwi Partners.

 

The expected appointing range for this role is: $85,000 - $95,000
