Working at Ara Poutama Aotearoa, Department of Corrections is a big responsibility. You will be part of a team of people, who, on a daily basis, (24/7) are helping to manage and monitor those subject to electronic monitoring in the community, ensuring the safety of the community and our people.
As an Operations Advisor, we are not here to judge, we often have to ask some hard questions, make tough decisions and deal with people who are stressed, frustrated and sometimes angry. We are looking for people from a variety of backgrounds, this could include corrections / justice sector, customer service or contact centre backgrounds. What's important is your ability to work at pace, multitask, problem solve, make critical risk-based decisions and work as part of a team – it's a lot to ask, but very rewarding.

About the role and our team
Our Operations Advisers are part of a team who are responsible for providing electronic monitoring services 24/7 for individuals, who might be on bail or subject to a community-based sentence throughout New Zealand, we have sites across Aotearoa. Our role is to electronically monitor each and every offender, to ensure they are adhering to their order or sentence.
The team electronically monitors approximately 6,000 people across Aotearoa, using GPS and RF monitoring technology and software. It's a busy, fast paced role that requires critical thinking; it's not for the faint hearted, but incredibly rewarding.
On a day to day basis you would be problem-solving over the phone with people who are facing difficult or stressful situations, liaising with Police to coordinate a welfare check or the arrest of an individual, or assisting a Probation Officer in the management of their an individual.
The role operates across a 24 hour, 7 day a week rotating roster. This can take some time to get used it, and it's important for you to think about your commitments outside of work before applying.

This is a busy role, and no two days are the same. To ensure your success we would look to you to demonstrate some or all of the following skills, experience and attributes:
- Experience communicating and engaging clearly over the phone/email with people from different cultures and backgrounds
- Great problem solving, judgement and the ability to unpick situations
- Strong data analysis skills
- Experience in a complex contact centre, customer service role, data analysis or in rehabilitation and reintegration related disciplines and practices.
- Ability to make sound decisions whilst adhering to process and established frameworks
- Resilience to deal with shift work, challenging situations, and people with difficult behaviours
- Strong computer literacy and ability to multi-task
- A great team-player
Utu ā-tau | Salary
- The starting salary for this role is $61,500.
