Offender Employment (OE) is all about supporting offenders to improve their work habits, work experiences and skills so that they can increase their chances of obtaining sustainable and legitimate employment on their release. By providing this foundation to success, we reduce reoffending and keep our communities safer.
As an Instructor at Invercargill Prison, you will teach, support, and use your life experiences to help others unleash their talents and be part of something that can be life changing. You will be providing direct supervision and practical training within a commercial kitchen setting. From general meal preparation and delivery to corporate catering, you will enable our people to achieve NZQA qualifications and provide a platform of good working habits for them to take forward to the future.
The role also provides support to the laundry operation, as part of the wider Internal Services Team.
General hours of work though will be Monday-Sunday between 0800-1800 and will be on a rostered shift basis of 80 hours per fortnight. Working public holidays, overtime and/or call outs may be required at times.

- London City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or equivalent trade qualifications
- The ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, medical assessment, and physical readiness assessment
- Experience as an adult educator or NZQA Assessor (4098) is preferred, along with a current First Aid Certificate.

Instructors have the same classification as Corrections Officers and, as such, complete the same initial training courses. This will involve on-site training as well as residential training at our National Learning Centre in Upper Hutt, Wellington, to focus on the custodial elements of the position.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The salary range for this position is $62,014 - $77,341 per annum. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
