About the role

An exciting leadership opportunity to manage and develop the Southland Maternity Unit at a time of change. You'll provide clinical and operational leadership to ensure safe, high-quality, and responsive maternity care for the community.

As the Midwife Manager, you will lead and support the Maternity Unit in Invercargill providing clinical and operational leadership to ensure the service is responsive to the changing needs of our community and health system.

About the Team/Service/Location

Southland Hospital's 18-bed unit supports ~1,200 births annually, offering full primary and secondary maternity services, including antenatal, delivery, postnatal, and lactation support. The wider Southern region serves a diverse population across urban, rural, and remote communities.

About You

We are seeking an experienced and values driven Midwife Manager who will provide strong clinical and operational leadership across our Counties Manukau Community Midwifery Service.

What you will bring:

  • NZ Registered Midwife with a current APC
  • Proven leadership and strong communication skills
  • Experience in clinical quality, risk, and resource management
  • Ability to foster teamwork and build effective relationships
  • Commitment to Te Ao Māori and culturally safe practice
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification

Salary range

This role falls under the terms and conditions of the MERAS Midwives Collective Agreement (1 June 2025 – 31 October 2027) and falls between the step 1 ($137,071 p.a prorata) and Step 3 ($147,201 p.a prorata) of the Designated Senior Midwife Salary Scale - Grade 7.
