We have full-time opportunities available within our Adult Mental Health Acute Inpatient Unit and Community Mental Health Team in Invercargill. Applicants seeking part-time hours are also encouraged to apply. The service is continuing to strengthen its medical workforce and teaching capacity. For psychiatrists with interests in medical education, supervision, service development or clinical leadership, there are opportunities to contribute to the ongoing development of psychiatric services and the future medical workforce in Southland.

About the role
Based at Southland Hospital in Invercargill, the Southland Mental Health Service provides a broad range of specialist mental health services to the Southland population.

Adult services include the 16–18 bed Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit, Invercargill Community Mental Health Team and Southland Emergency Mental Health Team, alongside Child and Youth Mental Health and Psychogeriatric services.

You will join a welcoming group of mental health professionals based at the Southland Hospital site and work within a multidisciplinary team providing high-quality care to patients and their whānau.

Regional practice offers the opportunity to develop strong professional relationships across services and specialties and to contribute to care across the patient journey. Consultants are encouraged to participate in teaching, professional development, quality improvement and the ongoing development of services.

New team members receive a comprehensive orientation and induction to Southland Hospital and the Mental Health Service, with opportunities to engage with colleagues locally and across the wider region.

Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($198, 386) and Step 15 ($282, 645 per annum pro rata). Your take home salary also attracts an on-call and availability allowances.
