About the Role
This role has been specially designed to provide House Officers who are interested in a career in general surgery with a dedicated commitment to the general surgery pathway through to Senior House Officer and possibly Registrar.
The run is 12 months in length. The House Officer will be in ED seeing general surgery patients, working on the ward, and will help in SMO clinics when free. The role is Monday to Friday 0800 – 1600 hours and is categorised as a D Band. You'll be part of a dedicated team providing comprehensive elective general surgery services, as well as 24-hour general surgery care.
The scope of your work will be varied and will include exposure to a range of subspecialties including:
- Breast and Endocrine
- Colorectal
- Upper GI
- Minors
This role belongs to the New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association and Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) Collective Agreement and Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (STONZ) and Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) Collective Agreement

About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council's website at MCNZ
- We are interested in hearing from RMOs with a minimum of 1 year post qualification experience and ideally an RMO who wants a career in General Surgery.
It is requirement of the Medical Council of New Zealand that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand, it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
