Dental House Officer Southland Hospital at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Southern, Southland

  • We are seeking a new or recent graduate to come and join the Southland Hospital Dental Service
  • Two-year fixed-term, full-time role
  • Close to some of New Zealand most famous national parks and ski fields

About the role

You will be providing oral health care within a multidisciplinary team at Southland Hospital, and community-based clinics in the Southern region. This will include providing routine and emergency care for adult, adolescent and paediatric patients who may be medically compromised, have special needs, or are on a very low income.

Dental House Officers will undertake their own varied patient workload as well as supporting the on-site Oral Surgeon and visiting Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery team. There is a requirement to travel to community-based clinics to treat adolescents and children as part of the fortnightly roster.

You will be responsible for:

  • providing quality dental treatment, both independently and at the direction of senior clinicians and consultants
  • liaising with other staff, departments and GPs in the management of patients as required
  • communicating effectively with patients and their whānau
  • ordering and following-up necessary investigations
  • making good use of your time and managing acute patients appropriately
  • managing inpatients and acute presentations to ED as required
  • participating in the after-hours on-call roster
  • participating in departmental teaching sessions and clinical audits.
