Southland Mechanical Supervisor at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Southern, Southland

  • Salary range - $95,554 to $98,795 depending on experience

About the role

As the Southland Mechanical Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of all mechanical services at Southland Hospital campus in Invercargill, but also several other clinical facilities throughout the Southland region, including Lakes Hospital, Stewart Island, dental facilities and smaller health centres.

You will:

  • be supervising two fitters and a trade assistant, and together, you will be responsible for dealing with reactive breakdowns and Programmed Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
  • become experienced in all of the mechanical systems in the hospital, these include: chilled, heating, domestic hot and cold, steam, medical gas system, air handler units and supply/extract fans
  • be running the day-to-day services for the hospital and using the Building Management System to assist
  • build positive relationships with the clinical and support staff throughout the hospital, which will enable the mechanical team to carry out essential maintenance in an active, functioning hospital
  • be responsible for reviewing all mechanical work requests and assigning work to your team and external contractors
  • provide support to the regional team leaders, supervisors and the Capital Projects team in developing future projects across the Southland region.

About the Team/Service/Location

You will be joining a Facilities team made up of over 40 people encompassing electrical, mechanical and works spread over Southland, Dunedin and Queenstown. Working together to keep all the Hospitals safe and working well.

About you

Our ideal candidate must have:

  • a minimum of three years experience in relevant trade (fitting, mechanical engineering)
  • experience managing staff or contractors
  • experience in customer focused service
  • experience working to construction issued drawings and specification
  • experience of scoping jobs and ordering materials
  • a current, clean driver's licence
  • excellent people skills
  • a positive, inclusive attitude.

Ideally, you should also have previous experience in a healthcare environment.
