About the Role

We currently have a permanent part time(0.6 FTE) opportunity available to join our team as a Registered Nurse – Public Health Communicable Disease. You will deliver nursing input to the Compliance and Health Protection team to manage communicable disease, including case and contact management, outbreak investigation and control, and prevention. Work in partnership with whānau and communities to uphold our obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Participate in education, quality assurance, and policy development

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Compliance and Health Protection team is part of the National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, and work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures for all) by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored. 

About you

You understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are skilled in applying its principles effectively in your role. You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels and models an agile approach –try new approaches, learn quickly, adapt fast. You are able to utilise nursing knowledge and skills through reflective practice, critical thinking and professional judgement to provide competent care and advice while working to top of scope.

  • Current registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand as Registered Nurse
  • A relevant post-graduate qualification or be working towards one
  • A current driver's license
  • Competent computer literacy including Microsoft packages
  • At least one years' postgraduate nursing experience.
  • Achieved, or working towards, competent level of practice on the RN Professional Development and Recognition Programme and commitment to maintenance and progression through the programme
  • Emergency Management/CIMS training and experience is desirable
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of public health nursing, primary care and/or community nursing
  • Authorised vaccinator (training can be provided).
  • BCG vaccinator (training will be provided).
  • Work closely with the team in setting up vaccination clinics internally and within the community, as a result of disease outbreak or pandemic.
