About the Role

As Group Manager Regional Health Analytics Te Manawa Taki, you will be responsible for leading a “team of teams” with data and analytics staff spread across the region, together supporting health service planning, improvement and performance monitoring. Your teams will contribute to better, more equitable health outcomes, by providing actionable insights, exposing variation and identifying areas of opportunity. You will develop and implement strategy to create a regionally connected analytics service in close collaboration with health service delivery leaders, clinicians and digital colleagues.

You will understand data pipelines sufficiently to diagnose problems and work with teams to solve them.

This is a significant leadership opportunity to help transform the way Health NZ uses data. You will provide oversight of regional data platforms and their alignment with national strategy, lead nationally significant analytics programmes, and drive the shift from fragmented, district-focused approaches towards connected regional and national capability. You will champion scalable analytics, consistent tools and standards, better data access and literacy, and the responsible adoption of AI, machine learning and other advanced analytical methods.

About the Team and Location

You will lead a regional Data and Analytics function working closely with regional operational and clinical leaders, Hauora Māori Services, Pacific Health, Planning, Funding and Outcomes, Digital Services and national Data Platform teams.

The role operates across Te Manawa Taki, connecting regional priorities with national programmes and capability. You will work with a broad network of internal and external partners, including the Ministry of Health, iwi Māori Partnership Boards, primary care organisations, NGOs and clinical networks.

About you

You will be an experienced and strategic analytics leader with at least seven years' senior leadership experience, including responsibility for teams of analytics practitioners. You will bring strong knowledge of health-sector data, healthcare environments and analytical practices, alongside experience providing leadership oversight of data platforms, data warehousing or data engineering.

You will be a confident communicator and influential leader who can engage effectively with executives, clinicians, technical specialists, operational leaders and external stakeholders. You will be comfortable setting strategic direction while maintaining a strong focus on delivery, people leadership, governance, quality and responsible use of resources.

You will bring:

• Senior leadership experience leading analytics teams and delivering complex, high-value work programmes.
• Strong health-sector knowledge, with an understanding of health data, healthcare processes and service delivery.
• Data platform leadership experience, including oversight of data warehousing, engineering, pipelines, governance and data quality.
• Strategic and commercial thinking, with experience planning, prioritising, budgeting and aligning resources to organisational priorities.
• Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, compelling insights and decisions.
• A strong commitment to equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with the ability to apply these principles meaningfully in your work.
• A people-centred leadership style, focused on building high-performing, inclusive teams and developing future capability.
