Asset Manager at Te Whatu Ora, Te Waipounamu

About the Role

As an Asset  Manager , working within the Infrastructure & Investment Group (IIG), you will lead the planning, stewardship, and optimisation of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora's asset portfolio to ensure assets are safe, reliable, and aligned with organisational and legislative requirements, across the South Island/Te Waipounamu region.

The role is responsible for developing and continuously improving robust asset management practices and systems, providing specialist advice to inform sound investment decisions, and ensuring that risks, compliance obligations, and performance expectations are effectively managed. Through strong collaboration across the organisation, the Asset Manager supports equitable health outcomes, demonstrates the values of Te Mauri o Rongo, and contributes to the delivery of high‑quality services for patients, kaimahi, whānau, and communities.

About the Team/Service/Location

The IIG team are focused on delivering high impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system.

Giving support, oversight and assurance across projects and programmes, the team understand that safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment are essential for a well-functioning health system that improves the health of all New Zealanders.

About you

You are an experienced asset management professional with a strong background in managing complex property portfolios and delivering reliable, compliant infrastructure outcomes. You bring extensive experience in asset lifecycle planning, maintenance optimisation, and a sound understanding of mission‑critical technical environments. You apply a structured, data‑driven approach to asset stewardship and are confident operating in ambiguity, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.

You demonstrate a collaborative and professional approach, building effective relationships across TWP site teams, contractors, and leadership, while ensuring alignment with organisational strategies and regulatory requirements. You are committed to continuous improvement, health and safety excellence, and achieving equitable outcomes for the communities you serve.

  • Translate and implement regional and national asset management strategies into practical, site‑level delivery, including Regional and Campus Asset Management Plans (AMPs).
  • Provide clear, evidence‑based technical advice, support audit and assurance processes, and proactively manage asset risks through the application of criticality frameworks, regulatory compliance, and effective mitigation strategies.
  • Improve asset reliability and support robust lifecycle and long‑term investment planning by contributing to capital and renewal programmes, including Long Term Maintenance Plans (LTMPs), through disciplined planning and prioritisation.
  • Partner with site‑based facilities managers to optimise planned maintenance programmes, reducing reactive work and enhancing overall asset performance and reliability.
  • Leverage AMIS data and insights to drive improved asset performance, reporting accuracy, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain high‑quality asset registers through robust data management, monitoring, and audit practices, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
  • Demonstrate exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship management, fostering collaboration and alignment across site teams, contractors, and leadership.
