Job Description

WorkSafe New Zealand provides health and safety advice and guidance to workplaces to help them understand what is expected and their legal responsibilities. We investigate fatalities and serious accidents and enforce legislation when need be. In addition, we gather intelligence, report on health and safety statistics, build partner and stakeholder relationships and develop prevention programmes.


The Technical Specialist is a team member position in the Technical Programmes and Support team. The Technical Specialist will bring their technical expertise to develop and support the inspectorate in their regulatory functions and provide technical advice to external stakeholders.


To be shortlisted for this role you will need to bring:

  • Specialist knowledge in occupational health/hygiene
  • Experience applying specialist knowledge in a regulatory environment
  • An ability to coach and mentor others
  • Experience and/or ability to contribute technical expertise to projects
  • A relevant qualification in occupational health, combined with an ability to hold and/or maintain an HSE warrant.


To be successful you'll be a team player, be excellent at building relationships with a range of stakeholders, have a good understanding of WorkSafe's strategic priorities  and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
