Job Description

WorkSafe New Zealand is the work health and safety regulator and our vision is that everyone who goes to work comes home healthy and safe.  We are charged with leading New Zealand to achieve healthy and safe workplaces by using an engagement, education and enforcement approach.

The Policy and Practice function within WorkSafe drives quality improvement of the health and safety regulatory system and supports its effective implementation. This includes developing tertiary instruments, providing advice to our policy agency, providing advice and support to WorkSafe teams, and developing operational policies that articulate our organisational decisions. We also work across WorkSafe to bring a policy and practice perspective to operational design questions, and help inform strategic decisions.

As a Principal Advisor Regulatory Practice you will provide expert advice on a range of topics related to the application of regulatory models and functions, health and safety models, international best practice, and strategic operational practice advice on management issues related to practice quality. You will also lead the design, development and continuous improvement of regulatory best practice and its related procedures, tools and guidance material, and ensure that the support and advice provided to managers is accurate, timely and consistent.

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate:

  • Significant experience at a senior or principal advisor level  providing strategic and operational practice advice preferably within a regulatory environment
  • Experience in designing and developing tools and guidance materials within a regulatory or related framework
  • Excellent critical thinking and research skills
  • The ability to coach and mentor colleagues to assist with their personal and professional development
