Senior Coronial Advisor at NZ WorkSafe, All Office Locations

About the role

The Coronial Services Team is a newly established team within Specialist Interventions in the Operations Group. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced advisor or inspector to step up and join the team of two advisors in a key specialist role to help shape and refine the way we work at WorkSafe and support engagement through Coronial processes for all WorkSafe. 

As a senior advisor this role will give the right candidate the unique opportunity to influence expectation management of engagement with the Coroner's Offices and in supporting improved regulatory outcomes by providing direct support to operational areas on coronial aspects of an investigation. In this role, you will be:

  • Managing requests for information under the Coroner's Act and coordination of the end-to-end process and communications for all engagement and relationship management with Coroner's and their Case Managers for WorkSafe's Operations Group.
  • Providing expert advice on all aspect of WorkSafe's obligations under our Operational Agreement with the Chief Coroner's Office.
  • Working across operational and corporate teams so that all relevant areas of WorkSafe are consulted on regarding Coronial matters.
  • Supporting management of fatality and coronial information about the activities and victim focused information related to this business function.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • A minimum of four years' experience working as a warranted Inspector II level or in other legal or regulatory environments to an equivalent level and in file management.
  • Demonstrated understanding or professional experience with Coronial Processes or similar Commissions of Inquiry.
  • Superior verbal and written communication and analysis skills for presenting information and advice to the inspectorate, drafting communications to Senior Managers, and in preparing responses to Coroners.
  • A proven record of building and maintaining strong engagement and relationships across an organisation from inspector to Head of levels in both operational and corporate areas and achieving practical outputs. 
  • A willingness to embrace continuous improvement and champion approaches to best practice.

About the Operations Group

The Operations Group is responsible for delivering insights-led regulation services through our teams and building that capacity in conjunction with the wider WorkSafe team. ​​​​​​​

It includes General Inspectorate, High Hazards and Energy Safety teams, Specialist Interventions (which includes investigations), and Operational Excellence (which includes our Customer Operational Servicing team and contact centre).

Salary range

As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $102,460 to $136,613, and our expected starting base salary for the right person is from $102,460 to $110,998.  Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional to/on top of your base salary.
