Ko te tīma - About your team
The role is in a team that undertakes certification, approval, registration and licencing activities across a range of areas which include:
- issuing Certificates of Competence for occupational diving
- issuing licences for asbestos removal and clearance inspections
- registering adventure activity operators, and
- registering amusement devices.
Ō te tūranga - About the role
WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru has legislative responsibilities to issue authorisations either directly, or indirectly through third parties, across a wide range of industry areas and work activities and we are looking to improve our regulatory authorisation/licensing work.
This is a newly created role. We are looking for a self-starter with:
- substantial experience and understanding of licensing/authorisation type work in a regulatory context
- good understanding of administrative law principles and regulatory interpretation expertise.
Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do -
This role provides regulatory expertise and leadership within WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru generally (and for Authorisations & Advisory in particular) and requires a high level of specialist knowledge across work undertaken by the Authorisations team.
The position will support the Authorisations manager and team to design and implement improved systems & practice and support effective regulatory decision-making.
Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What You'll Bring
We are looking for someone who:
- can champion good administrative law principles within the team and provide effective regulatory interpretation
- has good working knowledge and experience of regulatory auditing and/or investigative practices
- has good working knowledge of health and safety law is strongly preferred
- has demonstrable evidence of improving workflow processes and procedures
- has effective communication skills including writing clear, well-evidenced decision papers
- is a great team player and can help coach and support their colleagues.

Awhe utu - Salary range
As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $92,849 to $122,424 Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional to/on top of your base salary.
