Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections) Health Services lead the delivery of patient-focused primary health care services to tangata within corrections facilities across Aotearoa. Hōkai Rangi, our over-arching strategic direction, places the focus on health at the heart of our business. Building our frameworks from a Matauranga Māori basis is our focus to drive and support equity for Māori, which in turn will contribute to achieving our outcomes of reducing reoffending.
Mō te tūnga | About the role
We are looking for a motivated leader to assist in managing our primary health services team in Tongariro Prison in Turangi. The team consists of both clinical and non-clinical staff and you will thrive working in a complex and challenging environment.
You will report to and work closely with the Health Centre Manager. The Health Team deals with a broad range of general and mental health issues, respond to emergencies, consult with external health services and undertake health education for this high health needs population.
Working collaboratively with Doctors, Allied Health professionals, external agencies and other Ara Poutama Aotearoa staff you will promote a philosophy of care within the prison which ensures the delivery of quality primary health services to those in our management. The ability to form new relationships is vital in this role.

To be successful in this role you will:
- Be a NZ Registered Nurse with a current practicing certificate and post-graduate clinical experience in a range of settings
- Have well developed literacy, fiscal, leadership and management skills
- Be able to demonstrate your business acumen within a health care setting

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The mid point of the salary range is $108,180 and the full range (85%-120%) is $91,953 - $129,816. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
Kano ārai mate KOWHEORI-19 | COVID-19 vaccinations
As part of the COVID-19 response, health workers regulated by the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance (HPCA) Act are required to be vaccinated and boosted. This includes doctors, nurses and psychologists.
Staff not regulated by the HPCA do not currently need to provide evidence of their COVID-19 vaccination status.
