About the Role 

The Hybrid Multi-Cloud (HMC) Technician plays a vital role within the Digital Services team, providing frontline technical support, system maintenance, and troubleshooting for HMC systems. Working closely with senior team members, the technician ensures timely issue resolution, system stability, and adherence to technical standards. The role also involves contributing to project work, implementing new solutions, and supporting technical planning and deployment activities.

This position supports national, regional, and local initiatives aimed at simplifying processes, driving continuous improvement, and enhancing operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, collaborative, and curious, with a strong commitment to learning new technologies and improving the delivery of digital services. They will actively support equity in health outcomes, Māori and Pacific-led initiatives, and foster a safe, inclusive, and innovative workplace culture.

Operating at SFIA Level 3, the HMC Technician works under general direction, handling routine and some complex tasks, applying established methods, and exercising discretion to escalate issues when needed. They collaborate with internal colleagues, external vendors, and sector stakeholders, ensuring effective delivery of digital solutions while maintaining compliance, risk management, and high standards of health, safety, and wellbeing.

About the Team/Service/ Location 

The Hybrid Multi-Cloud (HMC) Technician joins the nationally connected Digital Services team, supporting the delivery and operation of secure, reliable digital health systems across Health NZ. The team works collaboratively with internal staff, clinical teams, and external vendors to drive innovation, simplify processes, and implement smarter, faster solutions.

About you

You are an enthusiastic and motivated ICT professional with a strong foundation in deploying, maintaining, and supporting IT services. You have experience performing routine operational tasks, troubleshooting issues, and contributing to technical planning and deployment activities. You thrive in collaborative team environments, are eager to learn new technologies, and are committed to applying high standards of professional integrity, safety, and ethical practice. A proactive approach, strong problem-solving skills, and an appreciation for Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable outcomes in health services will help you excel in this role.

You will have:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience as an ICT/Technology technician, supporting IT services and routine operational tasks.
  • Practical experience with service management systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira Service Management) and technical troubleshooting.
  • Exposure to implementing solutions, assisting with technical planning, and deployment activities.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in IT, computer science, or a related field (NZQA-accredited) and/or IT certifications such as ITIL or Service Management.
  • Strong collaborative skills with experience working effectively in team environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and develop technical skills while supporting day-to-day operations.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call roster to provide timely support and resolution of critical system issues.
