Ngā kawenga | About the role

The Principal Advisor Tactical Operations is responsible for the ongoing development of the framework for professional tactical options training and ensuring that Advanced Control & Restraint (ACR) and other specialist tactical capability exists, and meets the needs of the Department. This role is key to ensuring that the Department's tactical capability is aligned with other similar jurisdictions and makes best use of available technology and equipment.

The Principal Advisor Tactical Operations is a technical and operational leadership role responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of high standards of tactical capability within Corrections Services and leading a team of high performing regional Tactical Advisers. It is pivotal to staff safety and to ensuring that staff are trained and equipped to deal with challenging and violent situations.

If you have experience in tactical operations within an emergency management environment as well as an understanding of the strategic issues in tactical response and the statutory framework within which the system operates, we would like to hear from you!

 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

To be successful on this role, you'll need:

  • Experience with setting up infrastructure, systems and frameworks that align with current international best practice standards.
  • Experience leading a team of operational experts
  • High-level communication skills (including networking, influencing and negotiating) with a proven track record of developing strong relationships
  • Resilience to deal with the unique challenges that the Corrections environment may present.
  • Proven ability to evaluate risk management systems and procedures.
  • Evidence of achievement of delivering measurable performance improvement in a complex system.
  • High standard of both written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

This role requires the ability to travel on a regular basis, as requested. For this reason, you will need a full New Zealand driver licence for this role.
