Project Manager/Senior Project Manager at Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections), Wellington (Te Whanganui a Tara)

Ara Poutama Aotearoa is a name that has been gifted to us and is our commitment to improving the oranga and safety of the people, whānau, and that of the communities we serve across the motu. 

Infrastructure and Digital Assets (IDA) provide a range of services to support the delivery of Corrections' core business and ensure we can maintain consistent service delivery regardless of external events and crises.  The Asset Management team is responsible for delivering on a diverse range of large construction, horizontal infrastructure, bespoke builds and fit out projects which demand a diverse array of technical and commercial skill.

To help us with this, we're currently looking for a number of Project Managers and Senior Project Managers to join the team and support us with this valuable and varied work.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The roles we are seeking to fill are spread across two teams, Planning and Delivery.  Working within the team and across the wider business, you will either be responsible for managing interesting, high-profile projects through the initial phases of the project lifecycle (scoping projects from feasibility through to investment case) – or driving results from investment case through to delivery (Procurement through construction and project close out).

In addition, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Actively contribute toward a customer-centric, professional, solution focused, positive and high performing project planning team
  • Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure fit for purpose solutions are delivered and agreed project outcomes are met including driving the right cultural behaviours within the team and suppliers
  • Maintain a strong focus on health, safety and wellbeing, ensuring compliance with Department and legislative requirements
  • Contribute toward our continued business improvement and participate in the Project Managers Community of Practice forums and training.

Mōu | About you 

To be successful in this position you will have extensive experience as a Project Manager, ideally within assets, property or construction disciplines.  In addition, you will bring:

  • Experience managing large scale, high risk and complex projects, whilst maintaining best practice project management processes, methods, and techniques
  • The ability to build and lead bespoke project teams and proactively manage key project stakeholder relationships, negotiating and influencing as needed
  • Proven experience in writing Business Cases
  • Enjoy working within a collaborative environment and lead/mentor others when possible, enabling us to support and drive forward our organisation's strategy - Hōkai Rangi
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and negotiation experience, including the ability to influence and build consensus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. This includes the ability to clearly and effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical team members.
