The position of Senior Advisor, People Portfolio will be a key point of contact and/or liaison across the People & Capability leadership team and both internal and external stakeholders. This role will also be responsible for communicating to internal and external stakeholders about People & Capability priorities, work programmes, progress and will support strategic planning.

 

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Senior Advisor is responsible for providing senior advisory and management support to the People & Capability Leadership Team. This role reports to the Director of the People Portfolio and is responsible for reporting, assisting with producing key documents, governance, parliamentary and departmental matters relating to effective operations for the DCE People & Capability.

 

The role accountabilities of the Senior Advisor include:

  • Provides strategic advice and guidance to the DCE P&C on any management, operational or departmental issues where requested.
  • Undertakes performance analysis and risk/issues management and identification across the group
  • Acts as a general sounding board on strategic management issues for key members of the leadership team
  • Prepare appropriate reports for key stakeholders including governance groups
  • Co-ordinate with the DCE to ensure appropriate representation of P&C at internal and external meetings, appointments and functions.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with managers, team leaders, and staff in P&C and across other services and groups
  • Co-ordinates, analyses, researches and generates responses, advice and/or recommendations on reports and papers received by the DCE.
  • Prepares Ministerial, PQ and OIA information or other drafting of replies to Ministers, CE, key stakeholders and/or the public as directed by the DCE including papers and reports
  • Assists DCE and Communications team to respond to media/public enquiries and complaints where required

We are looking for individuals who can grow and nurture strong partnerships, are innovative, think critically, and who can develop and deliver fit for purpose human centred solutions.

Key skill sets required also include:

  • Proven experience at a senior advisory level, ideally in an operational role
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to effectively engage with stakeholders and governance groups to identify issues and seek resolution so that processes and documents are robust and complete
  • Can operate effectively in a Māori cultural setting and has an understanding and commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
  • An understanding of the New Zealand Governments Investment Confidence Rating (ICR) frame
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting strategic planning and change initiatives to achieve strategic goals
  • Awareness of Justice sector trends and the cultural, political and social environment of Corrections service delivery
  • Experience in complaints management and service recovery approaches

 

Utu ā-tau | Salary

The full range of this salary (85%-120%) is $110,091- $155,423. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
