Offender Employment (OE) is all about giving prisoners the opportunity to gain skills and work experience to increase their chances of obtaining employment after release. Now is an exciting time to join us as the Grounds Maintenance Instructor, within the Rimutaka Prison Offender Employment team.
In this role, you will be working with prisoners, providing direct supervision and practical training in a Grounds Maintenance setting. From Lawn care to site chemical spraying whilst enhancing prisoner employment opportunities upon release, you will enable prisoners to achieve NZQA qualifications linked to the Primary Industry Training Organisation. In providing a platform of good working habits to take forward to the future, you will further support rehabilitation and reintegration practices.

Experience as an adult educator or NZQA Assessor (4098) is preferred.
A full drivers licence and First Aid Certificate is required. The hours of work will be 0800 - 1600hrs Monday to Friday basis of 80 hours per fortnight.
Instructors have the same classification as Correction Officers and, as such, complete the same initial training courses.
This will involve on-site training at Rimutaka Prison as well as residential in-house training at our National Learning Centre in Upper Hutt, to focus on the custodial elements of the position.

This means that the Clean Slate Act does not apply to this vacancy. Please ensure you declare all offences (even those outside of 7 years) in your application.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The salary range for this role is $70,014 - $87,691. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
