Ngā kawenga | About the role
Working at Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections) is a big responsibility. You will be providing senior advisory and management support to National EM Operations team on any matter relating to the effective management of electronic monitoring alert responses.
The environment is fast paced, and the team are committed to keeping the community safe. We are looking for someone who will analyse data and provide insights to deepen technical expertise across National EM Operations. You would also be required to deal with escalated issues, troubleshooting problems and come up with solutions. This role will be a key support to our business and team leaders.
The role accountabilities include:
- Align the team to the vision and identify actions to deliver against the strategic direction.
- Lead the team and coordinate alert management response activities to reduce risk, such as EM installations, monitor on-hold visits, manage exception reporting for alerts and wearers with high alert numbers.
- Provide leadership and EM operational support, ensuring compliance with alert response management practices.
- Identify technical solutions or practice improvements to reduce alert volumes.
- Handle escalations from Eagle technology and with the relevant business partners.
- Prepare and support the release of all software upgrades and patches of the monitoring system.
- Support release planning and monitoring of high-risk wearers.
- Support management of inventory and logistics to ensure effective use of electronic monitoring equipment.
- Monitor performance to ensure KPIs are achieved and promptly taking corrective actions, when required.

This is a busy role, to ensure your success we would look to you to demonstrate some or all of the following skills, experience and attributes:
- Experience in electronic monitoring and alert management leadership role working in a fast-paced high-volume monitoring centre type environment.
- Extensive understanding of electronic monitoring equipment and technology.
- Understanding in logistics and supply chain processes.
- Experience managing a site, including health & safety, maintenance, supplies, and business continuity plans.
- Strong customer service ethos with a good understanding of the technical aspects of electronic monitoring and all functional activities associated with electronic monitoring to be successful.
- Experience leading a diverse team with competing business priorities.
- Experience leading, coaching and developing other leaders.
- Understanding and commitment to work in alignment with the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
- Ability to manage financial and human resources to ensure that service delivery targets are met.
- Well-developed networks, relationship management and communication skills both with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload of self and others in a high-pressure, high-volume environment.
- Experience in performance management and conflict resolution techniques e.g. motivational interviewing.
- Strong personal and professional resilience, with the ability to role model behaviours, exercising sound judgement, problem solving and decision making in dynamic, complex, high risk and/or sensitive situations.
- Enthusiasm for change, ability to adapt and manage others who are less comfortable with change.
- Ability to develop strong relations with stakeholders and vendors to successfully manage electronic monitoring.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The salary range for this role is $120,404 - $169,982.
