Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
Our Infrastructure Regulation branch is looking to fill multiple vacancies for intelligent and inquisitive Assistant Analysts or Analysts with strong analytical and communication skills. Based in either our Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) or Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) office, we are offering both permanent and fixed term positions through to December 2023.
You'll be contributing to the successful regulation of key infrastructure across New Zealand such as electricity lines, gas pipelines, major international airports, and fibre broadband. Climate change and achieving the transition to carbon zero are big issues for the organisations the Commerce Commission regulates. Be a part of the branch that is looking at these challenges from the regulation side.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
The Infrastructure Regulation branch is here for the long-term benefit of consumers and our rules and regulations perform important functions like limiting excessive profits and ensuring businesses have the right incentives to innovate and invest to deliver the services that their consumers demand.
You could be part of a team that analyses the performance of our key infrastructure sectors, or in a team that focuses on price quality regulation for these sectors. In this busy and varied role, you'll get the opportunity to learn about all sectors we regulate. You'll work on multiple projects within multi-disciplinary teams made up of lawyers, economists and technical specialists. You'll gather and critically analyse information, identify key issues, draw logical conclusions and help present these back to our decision makers.
He kōrero mōu | About you
A true team player, you'll be experienced working in a fast-paced environment and bring a proactive and solutions-focused approach. You'll be able to think, write and communicate clearly and offer sound critical thinking skills and be comfortable presenting to stakeholders at all levels.
You will also have some of the following:
• the ability to prioritise, focus on high value outputs and resolve challenging problems
• relationship management skills
• policy or regulatory experience
• report writing experience
• the ability to understand accounting and economic principles and interpret legislation.
We know that a diverse team with a range of life and work experiences enables high performance and innovation. Your work experience might include:
• technical accounting analysis
• finance and capital budgeting
• financial audit
• economic or legal policy analysis
A university degree in an analytical field (e.g. accounting, commerce, law, science, or statistics) would be an advantage but is not essential.
